Money no board pass
Dundee chief executive Dave MacKinnon today hit back at suggestions money can buy a seat on the Dens Park board (writes Graeme Finnan).
MacKinnon and Bob Brannan were handed permanent control on Friday after receivers Kroll decided their plan to take the club forward was the best on offer.

And, already, the new board, which also consists of Dee 4 Life’s George Knight and financial director Ian Bodie, have admitted they are keen to attract new investors.

However, any thought that buying a 10% stake, roughly equating to £75,000, would guarantee a seat in the Dens Park boardroom, were hastily knocked on the head by MacKinnon.

He said, “First and foremost, before anyone could join the board they would have to be voted unanimously on by the current board members.

“We don’t want to deter possible investors, but one thing we are clear about is that the board will take only decisions that, we feel, are in the best interests of the club. We would have to be clear about the motives of people before we would consider offering them a place on the board.”

Meanwhile, on the playing front, Dundee are expected to add Stirling Albion wide man David O’Brien to their squad in the summer. The left-sided 23-year-old has been with the Binos since coming through their youth system in 2001-2002.

His impressive form has also attracted interest from Wigan and St Johnstone, but the Dens men appear to have won the race for his signature.

Boss Alex Rae was today trying to lift his men following their disappointing performance against St Johnstone on Sunday. The Dark Blues went down 2-0 and Alex is looking for an immediate response when Airdrie United call at Dens this Sunday.

“We have three home games left and we must pick up maximum points to finish as high up the table as possible.”

United boss heads south
Dundee United boss Craig Levein was off on his travels today in a bid to source fresh talent for next season (writes Graeme Finnan).
The Tangerines gaffer headed south of the border as he continued his mission to rebuild the side in his image.

Craig has recently been over to Ireland to check on players and tonight’s trip to England will be his second in the space of four days as he looks to further boost his dossier on possible targets for next season.

“This is all about looking to bring in good players at the right price to Tannadice during the summer,” he said.

“It has always been my policy to do as much homework as possible to ensure that, when we do move, we get good value for money.”

Meanwhile, the United manager expressed his dismay that he will be without David Robertson for the next few games.

The midfielder’s red-card appeal, following his dismissal against Hearts, was yesterday rejected by the ruling body.

“We sat and watched the video footage of the incident several times and David was not aggressive in any shape or form,” said Craig. “There was just no semblance of violent conduct, so it’s a bit disappointing.”

Kevin on mend
St Johnstone skipper Kevin James, who was stretchered off against Dundee on Sunday with a head knock, reported for training today and is set to be in his usual place when Livingston call on Saturday (writes James Masson).
Steven Anderson, Derek McInnes, Allan McManus and Martin Hardie are all suffering from knocks and won’t train until Thursday.

Tonight, Saints face Cowdenbeath at home (7.30) in a Reserve League Cup semi-final. Saints’ team will include Bryn Halliwell, Andy Lawrie, Filipe Morais, Willie McLaren and Derek Lilley. Player/manager Owen Coyle will also start.

Today, Saints started selling Scottish Cup semi-final tickets against Celtic to their season-ticket holders and a steady stream of supporters were at the ground to purchase briefs.
