Dundee’s senior citizens are being given their chance to raise concerns directly with the city’s official Older People’s Champion.
Today saw the first drop-in sessions at the City Chambers where Councillor Helen Wright was on hand to discuss the issues affecting them.

Mrs Wright, who is also social work convener, became Dundee’s Older People’s Champion in March 2005.

The drop-in sessions will take place in Dundee every Monday — except for public holidays — at 18 City Square from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

They were borne out of discussions with the Dundee Pensioners’ Forum.

Their secretary John Copland said, “The Dundee Pensioners’ Forum welcomes this opportunity to raise issues and concerns with Dundee Older People’s Champion.

“My organisation will be encouraging older people to come along to the drop-in sessions.

“It is very important the voice of Dundee’s older citizens is heard.”

Mrs Wright said, “The older people’s drop-in session provides an opportunity for Dundee’s older citizens to raise issues with me and have their say about how they would like their services in the future.

“I’m keen to develop a dialogue with older people in Dundee.

“The weekly drop-in sessions will help me highlight issues and concerns raised by older people and ensure the relationship they have with services is one of care, respect and partnership.

“The information and feedback I receive from older people will be used to ensure that services in the city include and address issues which concern them.

“By talking to me directly about their issues and concerns I will be better placed to ensure that services are getting it right for all our older citizens.”
