Terrified to go out in evening
WE RECENTLY moved to the Torridon Road/Nursery Road area of Dundee after moving from Whitfield.

I am astonished at the amount of bother we have experienced in this area from youths.

I am fairly young, but I have never been so terrified to go out in the early evenings. If I feel this way how do older people feel?

We have telephoned the police many times about youths in our garden urinating in our drives, shouting as they congregate at the park at the back of the shops and then screaming while they carry on down our road.

The police turn up an hour later, sometimes never.

I have even been out walking my puppy and have had a youth yell at the top of his voice at the dog. He and his pals laughed as the dog cowered at my ankles.

I have also had abuse hurled at me while at Campfield Shopping Centre.

I now do not go on my own.

What are the authorities going to do about this? — Terrified.

Fingers out
IT’S TIME the authorities got their fingers out and did something about the number of youths that hang about the flats on Happyhillock Road, Dundee, next to Drumgeith Park.

Most nights, especially Friday and Saturday, youths between the ages of 11 and 16 hang about drinking.

They vandalise the area by setting bins on fire, pressing security buttons, smashing bottles and targeting residents’ cars.

I have contacted the police many times, but, by the time they come out, the youths have disappeared.

I look forward to seeing community wardens often in the area. — Not So Happy.

Day at Olympia spoiled

RECENTLY, ON a visit to Olympia in Dundee with our four-year-old son, we were disappointed to be restricted to only part of the children’s pool as a child was being given a lesson.

As the schools were off, we could not take our son to the adult pool as it was busy.

After our swim we went to the cafe upstairs and the food did not look appealing.

Our day was spoilt and we didn’t get value for money.

A full refund would be a good gesture on behalf of Olympia and we might then consider taking our son back. — I. F. Dundee.

Dundee folk should be proud
I READ the letter from Eck Setera saying Oasis and Razorlight make tuneless noise and The View look and sound terrible.

The first two are top bands, who have produced the best music in recent years.

As for The View, who cares what they look like?

It amazes me why some local people knock these four talented boys, who have put Dundee on the map for music.

The people of Dundee should be proud of what The View has achieved. — Angry.

No tickets
I TOO stood in the queue at the box office for The View tickets and left with nothing.

It is about time Dundee had a big venue like other big cities.

If The View ever do come back to Dundee for a concert, maybe Tannadice or Dens Park could be an option, or maybe Camperdown Park. — C. Patterson, Fintryside, Dundee.

I AM not happy that lots of people are selling tickets to see The View on ebay at £120-150 for a pair that cost £50. — View Fan.

What advice now?
IT IS only right that poll tax defaulters are pursued.

If I remember correctly, Tommy Sheridan and Alex Salmond were instrumental in urging the Scots public not to pay.

I wonder what pearls of wisdom they would now like to share with those still being pursued, nearly 20 years later? — B. Adamson, Strathmartine Road, Dundee.

How will airport transfer work?
AS A taxpayer, I inquire about the plans for the impending transfer of Dundee Airport from the city council to Highlands and Islands Airports.

Will the runway, buildings, plant and equipment be sold to H&I Airports or will it be rented to them?

Will airport personnel (management, air traffic control, fire and rescue, reception staff, ground services, etc) still be in the employ of the council, or will their services also be leased to the new operators? — Curious.

[A spokeswoman for Dundee City Council said, “The runway, buildings, plant and equipment will be leased to Highlands and Islands Airports Limited.

“Discussions will take place with the trade unions to finalise the transfer arrangements and this will include ensuring that staff will transfer on the same terms and conditions they currently have, including membership of the local government pension scheme.”]

Jobs going abroad
I AGREE with Angus Reader. I suspect I am classed as a racist because I stick up for my country.

We have lost a lot of jobs and we keep hearing of more going abroad. I am tired of listening to some Muslim demands.

I think they should be humble for the life they enjoy in Britain. — Reader.
