| And, for the first time, the events organisers have added an extra day, with music starting in the festival arena on the evening of Friday, July 6.
Other bands announced are Razorlight, Bloc Party, Scissor Sisters, Brit Award winner Amy Winehouse and Scottish favourites The Fratellis and Paulo Nutini.
Controversial rock star Pete Doherty’s band Baby Shambles will also play along with The Kooks and Kasabian. Dundee’s album chart toppers The View, meantime, were confirmed as headliners for King Tut’s Wah Wah stage on the Saturday.
With 35,000 tickets already sold for the event, the remainder will go on sale at 9 am this Saturday, inevitably sparking a frenzied few hours for fans who will try to book them online and by telephone.
Geoff Ellis of festival organisers Big Day Out Limited said, “We have always said that it’s the incredible loyalty of the audience that makes T in the Park so special and last year the fans made themselves heard again by voting T in the Park the best UK festival for the second consecutive year at the UK Festival Awards.
“To show our appreciation, we wanted to give something back to them and create an even better experience than the last. So it is with great pleasure that we are announcing a third day.
“The line-up is already particularly strong with four of the biggest bands in the world today confirmed to headline.”
Geoff pointed out the Dundee University-formed Snow Patrol are one of the four biggest bands in the world today along with Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and Razorlight.
He added, “Tickets are expected to sell out quickly once again this year, but as always I must urge fans to only buy tickets from official outlets”.
Dundee favourites The View were confirmed as headliners for the King Tut’s stage on the Saturday.
Geoff Ellis said, “It’s great for them, the way that their careers have taken off. They played a storming set on the T-Break stage last year, and they should be one of the highlights this year.”
Organisers have stressed that access to the Friday night show will be for campers only.
This year, over 170 artists will play across 11 stages, including the world-renowned Main Stage and the Radio 1/NME Stage. The legendary King Tut’s Tent also returns, together with the 8000 Pet Sounds Arena, the Futures Stage and the Slam Tent. The T Break Stage, which continues to champion the very best in homegrown unsigned talent, also returns to Balado. |
