| Construction vehicles have been parked near the entrance to the car park of Londis Supermarket on Perth Road and a hole in a nearby wall has been made to allow access to a building site.
Londis director and manager of the store, Amir Rossaq, said that a JCB has been placed directly in front of the shop’s delivery door blocking the access to delivery trucks and causing traffic problems on the adjacent street.
He said this was causing major disruption to business and complained that private property had been tampered with.
However, builders responded by saying they had done all they could to consider the needs of local business.
A spokesman for the builders said today, “We asked if they wanted the JCB moved, but they just told us no.
“The vehicle is not parked there on purpose to get in anyone’s way.”
Mr Rossaq said, “I have already had this problem in the last couple of weeks.
“They have blocked the entrance before and I have tried to talk to them, but they have ignored me and nothing has been done.
“Now it has happened again.
“They have knocked a wall through, which I don’t think they are allowed to do.
“They just go about doing whatever they want. They have used their vehicles to move some of our cars out the way which is interfering with our private property.
“I have spoken to the police about this matter, but was told that they could do nothing as it is a civil matter.”
A spokesman for Caddam Construction, who are responsible for the site, said they had asked about access to the site from Londis prior to starting construction.
He said, “We consulted with them before about this and they said it was okay.
“The wall is in disrepair and is going to need fixed, so we offered to fix it in return for access through knocking it down.
“They have now come to us and tried to charge us for using the car park, but I don’t think it even belongs to them.
“We don’t understand what the problem is. The work is nearly finished. We are just trying to do our job.” |
