Health service recruits
Fifteen new recruits from the ranks of the long-term unemployed are planning a career in NHS Tayside (writes Marjory Inglis, medical reporter).
The fortunate 15 faced an interview panel yesterday and have now been selected to attend a six-week pre-employment course, with a view to getting a job in the health service locally.

Late last year NHS Tayside joined up with Dundee College and others concerned with the fate of the long-term unemployed to establish the Healthcare Academy.

Debbie Donald, NHS Tayside’s head of workforce development, said the health authority has also expressed an interest in assisting those facing redundancy as a result of the job cuts at NCR.
