| Ewan, a joiner in his family’s business, and Fiona, a music teacher, live at Dubton, by Montrose, and were collecting their quarter share of last weekend’s Lotto jackpot in Glasgow this afternoon.
Fiona revealed that behind their good fortune lay the sadness that her father Gordon McIntosh was not alive to enjoy the moment with them.
He died in January after a long battle with cancer, and had asked that Fiona and Ewan bring their wedding forward from September to April in the hope he would see it.
Sadly, he died before the day arrived.
“Our wedding was on April 29, and our winning Lotto line was based on that date — 29-04-20-06 — plus 5 for Ewan’s birthday in September and 12 for mine in April,” explained Fiona, who placed the numbers online.
“If dad had not asked us to bring our wedding forward we would not have had the winning numbers.
“When we checked the results on Sunday afternoon we just kept staring at the computer. We still can’t quite believe it.
“Ewan plans to buy a new car and I will buy a piano, but otherwise we don’t expect anything to change.
“We are to stay on working, but it is nice to have the security of the money behind us.”
Fiona and Ewan, who live near her mother Margie, are planning a family celebration for which Fiona’s brother Callum, a professional singer, will make the journey north from London. |
