Peace groups seize on summit

Give peace a chance: Today’s anti-war rally in St Andrews.

As the debate continues over the political future of Northern Ireland, campaigners with a different agenda have been taking advantage of the St Andrews summit to make their voices heard, writes Gordon Berry.
Groups such as Stop the War, the anti-Trident Scotland 4 Peace and the University of St Andrews Peace Coalition have organised various activities.

Today, demonstrators manned an information stall and held an anti-war rally in the town. They planned to later march on the summit venue.

Last night, a rally called for an end to Britain’s “aggressive” Middle East policies, and tomorrow there will be a “tea party for peace” at St Salvator’s Quad.
