Brewster blow for Tangerines
Craig Brewster is set to undergo a scan after injuring his knee in yesterday’s reserve clash against Caley Thistle at Station Park, Forfar (writes Graeme Finnan).
“I didn’t feel it at the time, but it became really sore last night and there is definitely something wrong,” said Craig this afternoon.

“I’m not sure if it’s the cartilage or the tendons, but we are trying to fix up a scan so we can find out exactly what the problem is.”

The news is not only a personal blow for the United player/boss but also a major problem for the team, who are currently short-staffed in the striking department.

Only Collin Samuel, currently on international duty in Trinidad, and Noel Hunt are recognised first-team frontmen.

Meanwhile, United are set to enter contract talks with Lee Wilkie.

The big defender came through his third and final outing for the Tangerines second string in the 1-1 draw against Caley.

Both parties will now sit down on Monday, when Wilkie’s agent Charlie Duddy returns after holiday, and try to thrash out a deal that will keep the former Dundee man at Tannadice.

Today, Craig was keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the Wilkie situation.

However, he did admit the former Scotland man had done everything asked of him since joining the club on a trial basis over a month ago.

“Lee’s fitness has been fine and I have no problem with him on that front. He has improved every week he has been here,” said Craig.

Other clubs, including Plymouth and Gretna, are said to be watching developments closely, but Raith Rovers’ interest would appear dead following the arrival of Marvin Andrews at Stark’s Park (see story right).

St Johnstone, who are currently without central defensive pairing Kevin James and Kevin Rutkiewicz, have denied any approach.

Meanwhile, the United boss dismissed reports he was interested in Blackburn Rovers defender Jay McEveley.

Trialist named
Dundee’s trialist striker has been named as Issac Mopi (writes Graeme Finnan).
The 23-year-old Cameroon international has spent most of his career in Malta, where he has turned out for Floriana, Burkir Kara and Victoria Hotspurs. He has been selected for his national side’s squads at youth and Olympic level.

Meanwhile, former Dundee boss Jim Duffy has pulled out of the race to become manager of Irish outfit Bohemians.

Rovers return for big Marv
Raith Rovers have announced the sensational return of fans’ favourite Marvin Andrews to Stark’s Park today on a three-year deal (writes Craig Smith).
The 30-year-old has attracted the interest of a number of clubs since being released by Rangers in the summer.

But Raith manager Craig Levein has staged something of a coup for the Kirkcaldy club by capturing the towering defender’s signature.

Exact details of how the player’s wages will be funded have not been disclosed by Raith, although Andrews will move on a free transfer following his departure from Ibrox.

The Trinidad and Tobago international quickly established himself as a cult hero with fans after joining in September 1997, making 63 league appearances and scoring five times in his term at Stark’s Park.

Rovers sold Andrews to Livingston for around £50,000 in September 2000 and he joined Rangers in 2004.

Rovers manager Levein said Andrews’ return only confirmed his belief that the club had the potential to progress up the division.

“Marvin has over 100 caps for his country and has amassed a great deal of experience, which makes him a significant presence on the park,” he said.

“He will give everyone a huge confidence boost, especially the young guys, who will feed off his composure.

“As he’s shown many times before, Marvin is a great personality and a proven winner — and the fact he has turned down offers from England and Scotland sends a great message to the fans. This is a club on the up.”
