| Deasley returned to action with the youth team only on Sunday after a few weeks out with ankle trouble and, as much as he wants him available for the Tayside derby, the manager will not rush his young striker back.
“We have big Robert Campbell’s strength as one option on the bench and Deasley’s sharpness would give us another alternative, so it would be good to have him back in the squad,” said Alex.
“However, he’s had only 45 minutes back and we’ll need to see how he progresses over the next couple of days in training before we decide if he can be involved in the first team as soon as Saturday.”
Long-term absentee Gary MacKenzie, meanwhile, is making good progress after his ankle operation and could be back working with the rest of the squad inside a month.
“He’s coming on well and is now walking unaided by crutches and working in the gym.
“We thought it would be about six weeks before he was back and I’d say he is still on course to hit that target.” |
