| Her Order, the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood, have been in Dundee for almost 30 years, previously running a children’s home in Roseangle.
Sister Stephanie and others moved to Kirkton in 1990. She is now the only one left, and lack of numbers has forced the Order to close the Kirkton house.
The one in Cupar is, however, remaining open.
Among those who returned for the occasion were Sister Rita, Sister Mary Anne and Sister Madeline, all of whom lived and worked at St Columba’s.
Paying tribute, Bishop Vincent Logan said all the sisters had made an enormous contribution to the life of the Diocese of Dunkeld, and to the lives of the people of Kirkton.
“They will be greatly missed by all of us, not least the people of Kirkton, who hold them in great affection, and who have worked so closely with them over the years.”
The mass was concelebrated by the bishop, parish priest Father Neil Gallagher, Canon Basil O’Sullivan, who was priest at St Columba’s for many years, and Father Jean-Pierre, chaplain to Wellburn Home.
