Beware this fare scam
PLEASE BE aware of a young man at bus stops, who pretends to be foreign or deaf and mute.

He has a piece of paper with the number of a bus and signs that he doesn’t know where to get it and underneath the number is the price of the fare.

He then signs he has no money. I was gullible and gave it to him.

A few weeks later I saw him “asking” other people. I went over and told them not to give him money as it was obviously a scam. Then his attitude changed and he ran off after some rude gestures to me. — Once Bitten.

[A police spokesman said, “Whilst we are not aware of this being a particular problem, we would urge members of the public to contact the police with any concerns, preferably as soon after the event as possible so we can make the appropriate inquiries.”]

Chosen by residents

Entrance to Hilltown Park.

AS A local resident, I attended a consultation meeting to discuss designs for Hilltown Park. The chosen design was voted for democratically by the residents who attended.

The park is now a beautiful place to go to relax, enjoy your packed lunch, admire the trees and artwork. What more could anyone ask for in the middle of the city?

I look forward to meeting Mortified Hilltown Resident, Furious, Hilltown and N. C., Dundee at the Round Table meeting to be held in St Martin’s Church Hall, Derby Street, on Wednesday, September 13 at 6pm to hear their ideas for the future regeneration of the Hilltown. — Wilma Duncan.

In the minority
I ATTENDED several public meetings about the new Hilltown park developments and was consulted on this subject.

I did not like the plans and said so, but I was in the minority.

Where were Mortified, Furious and N.C. then?

But it is not too late to do something about it. Whether you love or hate the work that has already been carried out, go along to the meeting on September 13 and have your say about any future plans for the area. — Margaret Wemyss.

Looking for domino players

Barrack Park’s Ernie Taylor, one of the city’s oldest players.

BARRACK PARK, one of Dundee’s oldest domino teams, dating back to the days of the Temperance Movement, play in the Dundee Domino League on a Wednesday evening, with home games at the Dundee Social Club, Thistle Street.

We are looking for both experienced players and those who have never played before, of all ages, to supplement our squad.

Our team includes Ernie Taylor, at nearly 90, one of the city’s oldest players. — Ian McMaster, Captain, Barrack Park Domino Team (01382 811998).

Buses before winter
A FEW weeks ago, Dundee City Council installed bus stops on Tom McDonald Avenue, which leads from the bottom of Ninewells Avenue to the Technology Park.

The bus numbers on the stops are 13 and 14 and as we work at the Medi Park these would be handy. At present we need to walk to and from the Ninewells stance to catch buses.

As we have had our bus stops for some time now we are keen to see the actual buses before winter. We have tried the bus companies with no joy. — Staff At Medi Park.

[A spokeswoman for Stagecoach Strathtay said, “The Stagecoach Strathtay ‘X City’ service was originally planned to serve Ninewells Hospital through the link road between the Medi Park and Ninewells.

“On commencement of the ‘X City’ service the road was not complete and was unsuitable for bus traffic, so an alternative route was introduced.

“Building work that is still ongoing is delaying the completion of the road for the foreseeable future.

“The 76 service was recently diverted to serve the Medi Park and these buses operate at 18 and 48 minutes past every hour from Whitehall Street and 12 and 42 minutes past every hour from the Medi Park.

“Stagecoach Strathtay will continue to closely monitor the progress of the link road and when this road is ready for bus traffic, services will be diverted.”

A spokeswoman for Travel Dundee said, “I can advise that when we initially registered the 14 service there was no clear indication of when the link road through to Ninewells would be opened.

“Now that it is open we have re-registered the service to include the link road with the Traffic Commissioner. However, as it takes 56 days for the registration to be cleared we aim to commence using this link road from the November 5.”]

Shocking mistake by police
YET AGAIN Tayside Police has bungled, this time breaking down the door of an entirely innocent couple instead of an alleged drug dealer.

Perhaps it is just as well it was a young couple, had it been an elderly person the consequences could have been catastrophic.

How on earth anyone can make such a mistake beggars belief.

Tayside Police and their intelligence officers should hang their heads in shame. — Inspector Clouseau.

Glass danger
THE HOUSES in Linlathen are having new windows in, and they look lovely.

But who is responsible for the large amount of glass scattered in the grass area beside Rowantree Crescent?

I walk my dog through there to reach Finlathen Park and it is becoming incredibly difficult to cross it.

I would imagine it could be children throwing the glass, but could the council not have made more appropriate plans for its removal?

Glenconnor Drive is the next phase. Is the same going to happen there? It is only a matter of time before someone is injured. — Jessie Peeps.

Save cash for houses
HOW MANY ivory towers are this council going to build, with new rent offices in Lochee and Linlathen and building planned for the town centre, at present costed at £12 million.

The Lord Provost says locals and visitors will gaze in admiration, but I say cancel it and use the cash to improve housing. — E. B., Dundee.
