| Eviction no answer |
| LETTER WRITER Jeff Duncan says, “new laws are needed to evict families whose children are out of control”.
I cannot see how evicting the family would solve the behaviour of the children.
Some people don’t know how or don’t implement good strategies and organisational skills to be able to control their children.
Would it not be better to adopt more of a “Supernanny” approach?
Moving a family is only moving the problem.
There are people who willingly admit they don’t know how to cope with their children and don’t know where to turn to for help or where help is on offer.
What if there are two children in a family and only one is the problem? Do you make the “good” child homeless? — Pamela Stoneman, St Nicholas Place, Dundee.

| Not Christianity |
| I DISAGREE with Ron Smith. George Bush and Tony Blair are politicians. They do not represent Christianity.
There are no Christian suicide bombers.
Mr Smith’s letter does raise the issue of why God would tell three different prophets three different stories and then sit back and watch their followers slaughter each other down the centuries. — Peter Donaldson, Findhorn Street, Dundee.

| Situation improving? |
| DEFENCE SECRETARY Des Browne says the situation in Iraq is improving. Last month 10,000 Iraqis were killed.
Mr Browne treats the public with contempt when he makes statements like this. — E Bignell, Buttars Road, Dundee.
| Good wages |
| I WAS annoyed at the letter by Blair Out. If our wages are so paltry how can foreigners manage to live here whilst sending money back home?
Also, many of the immigrants are highly skilled and many doing menial tasks have degrees. As for stealing our jobs, anyone is free to apply. — J. Y.

| Move out of town for peace |
| LETTERS HAVE been referring to how pubs were before the smoking ban, but I would remind those who suggest laying on snacks and putting on entertainment, that snacks were removed for hygiene reasons.
As for entertainment, I’m all for it as I am a musician and love to play in pubs.
However, it’s dying off, because people buy flats above pubs in the city centre and constantly complain about noise.
I do agree there should be a limit to the noise levels, but if those people want a quiet night, they should move out of the city centre. — Dundee Musician.
| Greetin’ faces |
| IN RESPONSE to all the greetin’ faces complaining about smokers outside pubs, if the Government stopped changing things, like the smoking ban, we would not have cause to moan.
Just cross the road. We all have different habits and some want to smoke. — Fed Up Daryl B.

| Unfair criticism |
| HARD-WORKING Woman criticised me for my complaint about losing out over blinds after the council replaced my double-glazing.
I work full-time plus overtime to save for items such as blinds.
I have been a council tenant since I was 18 and pay full rent and council tax. So why am I lucky to have a council house?
I haven’t bought my house, and nobody forced this reader to buy hers. — Hard-Working Mum.
| Bring them home |
| OUR DEMOCRACY is under threat from terrorists, but our forces are too busy in other countries. It is time to bring them back. — J. J. Smith, M.B.E.
| Parking permit |
| WHY WILL Dundee City Council not budge on allowing visitors’ permits for parking in Menzieshill?
My daughter cannot have friends visit for more than two hours, or, if from out of town, stay on for longer without them paying a £60 fine for every day they stay. — D. Paton.
| Spaces for Liff pupils |
| IT IS perhaps no surprise to learn that the increase in house building around Liff in recent years has put a strain on the village primary school, leading to proposals to change catchment areas.
Angus Council says further housebuilding at West Green Park is behind its proposals to deny entry in future to children from Dundee.
I note that Dundee City Council is undertaking an ambitious upgrade of its schools.
Surely this will include adequate space for the children in Liff? — L. M. L.
| Denied access |
| I READ with interest the suggestion that Dundee children be denied access to Liff Primary by Angus Council due to overcrowding.
My nephew spends the best part of an hour on a bus every morning to get to school in Monifieth.
Then he has to do it again in the evening.
As the councillor for the ward, I think Frank Ellis has a cheek criticising other councillors.
When can the children of the Sidlaws area expect to hear of a new school for their part of Angus? — Angry Relative.
| Irresponsible person |
| I WOULD like a certain irresponsible person to know how much grief and upset he or she caused by removing items from my son Ryan’s grave.
I would like these items to be returned.
If anything is to be removed from his grave it should be done by me and me alone. — Irene Murphy, Dundee.
| Oscar winner |
| IS THE actor William Holden still alive? — J. Brown, Arklay Street, Dundee.
[William Holden died in November 1981. During a long career, he had starred in a huge number of films, including The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Fleet’s In, The Wild Bunch, Towering Inferno, Sunset Boulevard and Sabrina.
He won an Oscar for his part in Stalag Luft 17.]

| Damage fear |
| I AGREE with the tenants of Ardler, Dundee. When I visit my daughter I can’t park my car in her street for fear of it getting damaged.
Come on Sanctuary, it’s about time you were thinking about ASBOs to let decent people live a peaceful life. — Concerned Mother.
| Noisy bells |
| WHEN I was in town last Monday, I left with a full-blown headache, thanks to the church bells.
My sympathy goes to shops and businesses who have that to suffer. I don’t mind church bells ringing, but not for that length of time. — Sair Heid, Dundee.
| Missing berries |
| I USED to love going to the berries. Nowadays there are no buses taking bairns and parents from Dundee.
It was a fun day for the wee ones and a chance to make extra pocket money. — Dark Blue.
