| Even last week’s deluge of rain provided little respite for members of Dundee Model Boat Club.
The depth of water is so low, model yachts, fitted with long keels, have been left high and dry, while larger-hulled battery and engine-powered craft have been removed after scraping the bottom of the pond.
Club president Alex Ferguson said members regularly rake out huge clumps of weeds only for it to quickly spread back.
He understood the problem stemmed from a lack of pressure to a hydrant feeding the top pond, used for rowing boats, which is filtered through to the lower one used by the modellers.
Member Arthur Milligan is concerned people might turn away from the club, one of the oldest in Scotland, having been on the go since the 1860s.
A Dundee City Council spokeswoman said, “We recognise the model boat club is a popular attraction and we have been trying to help them.
“There has been a lack of water pressure this year and we have been discussing this with Scottish Water.”
Scott Gaffney, Scottish Water’s North East networks manager, said, “We are working with the council to come to some sort of resolution to raise the water level in the pond as quickly as possible.” |
