Resident bemoans beach ‘blight’
The beachfront at Monifieth is becoming increasingly blighted by rubbish and litter, it was claimed today.
Local resident John Thornton said he used to walk his dog on Monifieth beach, but now goes elsewhere because of the household waste, bricks and other detritus which has gathered there.

Mr Thornton said he had contacted Angus Council about the problem, but was told they are not responsible for clearing the waste.

“No-one seems to be claiming responsibility,” he said.

“When you compare Monifieth beach with Carnoustie and Broughty Ferry, you can see that so much could be done.”

Mr Thornton believes the problems began several years ago when Angus Council carried out erosion prevention work by Tayview Caravan Park.

He said, “There was a lot of bricks in that area, and we thought they might do a clear up whilst they were working.

“They didn’t, and more and more rubbish has piled up.

“It is looking terribly neglected.”

A spokeswoman from Angus Council said, “We are sending a waste inspector to look today.”
