| The Tele, in conjunction with Wave 102, asked readers to nominate deserving fathers for the title of Superdad 2006 and, after sifting through the many entries, the winner was Bruce Dingwall, from Dundee.
Bruce, who was nominated by his daughter Paula, found out the good news when Wave 102 turned up at his house with a Fathers’ Day surprise.
Bruce’s wife died in 1998 and he has brought up Pamela and her brothers since then.
Pamela had struggled to come to terms with her mother’s death and turned to drugs. Her father was devastated when he found out about this and put his life on hold to help his daughter deal with her grief and to help her battle against drugs.
Pamela has been clean now for five weeks and said if it wasn’t for her dad she would not be here today. She couldn’t think of a better way to say thank-you than by nominating him for the Evening Telegraph and Wave 102’s Superdad 2006 award.
Bruce was gobsmacked when he found out. He was lost for words and there were tears all round.
Wave programme manager Peter Mac said, “Thank you to everyone who nominated their dad. The response we received was phenomenal and, although each dad nominated is in his own right a Superdad, we could only have one winner and Bruce stood out that little bit more.”
In recognition, Bruce was awarded a Superdad Trophy, meal, traditional hot towel shave treatment, champagne, chocolates and a Silver Day Package at Knockhill. |
