Development club reject Dee 4 Life bid
At a “very heated meeting” last night, the Dundee FC Development Club chose not to throw their weight behind the latest Dee 4 Life attempt to gain control of the Dens Park club (writes John Brown).
Dee 4 Life are striving to obtain 26% of Dundee FC shares in a bid to have a bigger say in the running of the club, with the ultimate intention to take over the club completely.

An insider, present at the specially-arranged EGM, said, “Things were debated quite strongly and it got very heated at times.

“However, the vote to join the Dee 4 Life initiative was tied at 11-11, with chairman Dave Forbes using his casting vote to scupper any chance of a tie-up with the fans’ trust.

“We (Development Club) will now continue to raise funds for the Dundee FC youth development, as per our constitution.”

Meanwhile, supporters’ group Dee 4 Life yesterday announced a range of incentives for fans to contribute to their “URE Dundee” campaign.

“Every fan who makes a donation to the cause of funding a hoped-for major shares purchase will receive an official certificate and be entered into a prize draw,” said the Trust’s Scott Glenday.

Meanwhile, Dundee manager Alex Rae will speak to former St Johnstone, Dundee United and Aberdeen midfielder Danny Griffin over the weekend in a bid to lure the Northern Ireland internationalist to Dens Park. The new Dark Blues boss held talks with Griffin’s agent Allan Preston yesterday and hopes to have a deal done by early next week.

“I’ve already spoken to Allan and hope to have a chat with Danny over the weekend to move things on,” said Alex.

“Danny certainly has ability, but the important thing for me is that he has the right temperament, too.

“He’s played at international level for Northern Ireland and has a wealth of experience.”

Rae also remains interested in former United winger Andy McLaren and is being strongly linked with Derek Young, who was released by Dunfermline.

NOEL HUNT’S transfer from Dunfermline to Dundee United is set to be completed soon, after Pars chairman John Yorkston and United manager Craig Brewster settled the compensation package for the player.
