| On Saturday and Sunday, from 11.00 am until 4.30 pm, Invasion Perth will bring together characters from throughout Perthshire’s history — from the ancient Romans to The Black Watch.
Organised as part of Perthshire Archaeology Month and involving a mix of re-enactors, enthusiasts and soldiers, each of the displays will provide a colourful insight into the way life has been lived in Perthshire through the ages.
At the event launch, Provost Bob Scott said, “Perth and Perthshire have a vivid and fascinating history.
“The excellent demonstrations provided will encourage visitors young and old to learn a bit more about our heritage.”
Jill Farrell, director of business growth at Scottish Enterprise Tayside, added, “Tourism is worth around £400 million a year to the Perthshire economy and we’re delighted to support an event which will help encourage more visitors and raise the profile of the area.
“The popularity of this event will increase the number of visitors and the amount they spend in the local economy.”
The key draw to the event will be The Knights of Arkley, who will offer an glimpse into the life of 12th century knights and stage jousting displays of hand-to-hand combat.
The Clanranald Trust for Scotland will also re-enact one of the most famous battles to have shaped Perthshire’s history.
The battle — which took place at the site of the North Inch in 1396 — was entered into by the Chattan and MacKay clans, who were ordered by Robert the Third to sort their differences by a gladiatorial battle.
Other attractions featuring on the day will include a Roman camp of the Antonine Guard, a replica Viking camp and a living history camp of the Jacobite clans.
Organised by EventOne Management, Invasion Perth has been funded by Scottish Enterprise Tayside and Perth and Kinross Council. |
