Dundee pupils reveal book shortlist

Primary schoolchildren in Dundee championed their four favourite books today as they revealed the shortlist for the inaugural City of Discovery Picture Book Award.
Pupils from St Joseph’s Primary revealed the four finalists after a panel, featuring 14 schools across two age groups, joined forces to look, listen and vent their own opinions.

The finalists are: Looking After Louis by Lesley Ely and Polly Dunbar; Spookyrumpus by Tony Mitton and Guy Parker-Rees; Mr Beast by James Sage and Russell Ayto; and The Fairy Tale Cake by Jonathan Langley and Mark Sperring.

Lord Provost John Letford praised the pupils for their teamwork with P6 children reading the stories to their younger counterparts before analysing their reactions and drawing up reports.

He said, “It has been marvellous to see so many young people engaging with books in this way.”

Pupils will be able to celebrate on June 14 when the award’s inaugural winner will be announced.
