| Wrong impression |

The view as you emerge from Dundee Railway Sation.
| JIM McGOVERN is definitely on the right lines with his criticism of Dundee railway station and the bad first impression its tatty state gives visitors to the city. |
| And things just get worse whenever they step out of the station to be confronted by the eyesore that is the dilapidated Tay Hotel building. This combination must surely wrongly convince folk Dundee is a real run-down place.
Who owns the hotel and are there any plans to renovate it? It is a handsome building, which, if it were spruced up, could be a real asset to the city. — Sore eyes.

| Dilapidated state |
| THE SAGA of the dilapidated state of Dundee Railway Station continues. We now have a visiting DJ expressing negative comments at the portal to the city.
The council has done its bit to make Dundee more inviting, with ambassador routes, city centre improvements, etc.
My answer is to abandon the present station and develop a street-level facility for rail links. Two sites come to mind, the tyre and exhaust depot at the harbour gates or the old Homebase site in Riverside Drive.
One thing is certain, the current situation is not an option. — Green Light. |
| Local councillor ignored |
| I CANNOT believe the arrogance of the Labour/Tory/ Lib pact on Dundee City Council.
We have an SNP councillor in Menzieshill and he is not even invited to a meeting with NHS Tayside about parking at Ninewells Hospital.
Councillor Macpherson says he has had many of his constituents complaining about proposed parking charges.
I suspect Councillor Don has as well.
Who decides who goes to these meetings? Why was no SNP councillor invited?
This pact forgets that the SNP is the biggest party on the council.
The people of Dundee voted for them and this omission is an insult to the people of Dundee. — H. W., Dundee. |
| Robin Hood in reverse |
| HURRAH! TONY Blair and Gordon Brown at last plan to re-establish the link between pensions and wage increases, albeit not until 2012.
This comes 15 years after coming to power. It will be 32 years since the cut first took place.
Although it won’t benefit past and most present pensioners, it nevertheless is gratifying to feel we have played our part in bringing some justice to pension poverty.
The Government certainly looked after the salaries and pensions of the Cabinet and MPs.
As good as this new move is for tomorrow’s pensioners, for the others it’s 15 years too late.
Chancellor Brown, with so many other failed Ministers, should go.
He is a modern day Robin Hood in reverse. He robs the poor to pay the rich.
He should never be Prime Minister when Tony Blair goes. — W. McCormack, Symers Street, Dundee. |
| Da Vinci film not factual |
| MY UNDERSTANDING of the film “The Da Vinci Code” is that the plot claims Jesus married Mary Magdalene. This has outraged Christians worldwide.
When I saw the film I did not find it very entertaining, or factual.
Jesus has been portrayed in a few movies without any serious trouble arising.
I just wonder what kind of a reaction there would be if a plot of a movie had made out Jesus as being an ordinary working man preaching rebellion against the powers-that-be of his time.
Jesus was born into poverty and made no attempt at becoming a rich man. He condemned the rich. — Ron Smith, Dundee.

| Bus stop |
| I LIVE in Sidlaw House sheltered housing and bring to the attention of Dundee City Council the positioning of the bus stops on Turnberry Avenue.
I am a 74-year-old woman and suffer from arthritis. It is a very long walk to the nearest stops.
It would make sense to position the stops so one is outside the building. — Concerned.
| Reunion |
| A REUNION is to be held for all pupils who left St John’s Junior Secondary School in Park Place, Dundee, between Christmas 1955 and June 1956, in Sinatra’s on Friday, June 16 at 7.30 pm. — Christine (Ferguson) 01382 612355 and Stella (Black) 01382 774178.
| Wrong |
| BECAUSE IT’S 2006 it does not mean homosexuals and lesbians are normal, and should be able to pass on their ways to others, especially children. The people who equate them to heterosexuals are wrong. — H. H.
| About Shona |
| MSP Shona Robison has managed to steal the coverage of the children’s walk to school.
It’s all about her row with Dundee City Council now, not the children.
She gets more than enough coverage from the Press. — Tele Reader.

| Sad state |
| LAST YEAR there were 12,603 abortions in Scotland. The population of this country is ageing and declining. What a sad state of affairs. — Pro-Life Stan.
| Week a long time |
| YOU CAN almost feel sorry for John Prescott. History relates that Nero fiddled while Rome burned and Sir Francis Drake finished a game of bowls when the Spanish Armada was sighted in the English Channel.
Now poor John is being pilloried for enjoying a sedate game of croquet while in charge of the country during Tony Blair’s absence.
It could be argued that the structures of government are crumbling but this does not prevent Tony Blair (or John Reid) going off on holiday.
The question arises, however, if Tony Blair thinks that John Prescott is unfit to run a department how can he be trusted to run the country, even if only for a week?
Did Harold Wilson not say a week is a long time in politics? — R. F., Broughty Ferry.
