| As part of the UK–wide campaign against preventable noise, Dundee Community Mediation was running an information stand to offer advice and leaflets about the options available.
Mediators Sue Williamson, Mary Robertson and Pam Wardlaw were at the stand to raise awareness of a service that can help neighbours resolve bickering without the need for legal action.
The mediation service works in partnership with agencies such as the anti social behaviour and the environmental health teams to help resolve noise-related problems.
Mediation service team leader Bob Ballantine said, “New legislation passed over the last few years now offers people a wide range of options for dealing with noise problems.
“However, we would usually recommend that in the first instance people try to reach a voluntary agreement, with our help if necessary, as this usually works better for everyone.
“This still leaves open the option to use enforcement measures if no agreement is reached.”
The free service, which has a high success rate in Dundee, is neutral and confidential.
With the support of the city council, Dundee Community Mediation can now offer support in additional locations where there are difficulties between young people and older residents, businesses or other youngsters.
This will give more people across Dundee the opportunity to resolve disputes by meeting round the table with a trained mediator.
Noise Action Week is run by NSCA, an environmental charity supported by pollution control professionals. The organisation is working towards better manage-ment and reduction of noise problems through policy development and education. |
