Police today stepped up their hunt for the gunman who held up a Dundee off-licence, writes Stefan Morkis.
The robber entered the Hilltown branch of Haddows shortly before 9 pm yesterday and threatened a male member of staff with a handgun.

The robber forced the terrified assistant to hand over a three-figure sum. The assistant was left extremely shaken.

A team of CID and uniform officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries. They are also studying CCTV footage while the forensics team are at the scene.

The robber is between 30 and 40, and 5ft 10 and 6ft, medium build with receding dark hair. He was wearing a dark bomber-style jacket, dark trousers or jeans and a checked shirt.

Detectives say he was seen walking around the bus stops on Victoria Road at its junction with the Hilltown immediately before the armed raid.. However, they have yet to determine in which direction he fled.

Detective Chief Inspector Ewen West said, “This was a particularly serious incident, which caused significant distress.

“It is important anyone with information contacts us. We specifically want to speak to anyone in or around the shop between 8.30 and 9pm. They should call Tayside Police on 01382 223200 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Haddows, owned by The Thresher Group, was open for business as normal today.
