| The first major promotional chance of this season — the successful Radio One Big Weekend music festival at Dundee’s Camperdown Park — saw travel writers from across Britain taking in locations across the city and its surrounds. It’s anticipated knock-on effects for tourism will be substantial.
Meanwhile, Scots golfer Sam Torrance dropped in to play a round of the Championship Course at Carnoustie today. The Ryder Cup-winning captain said he was delighted to be able to sample the venue for next year’s Open.
He also took the chance to raise awareness of the 2006 VisitScotland Sam Torrance Cup. Twelve winners from across the UK and Ireland, plus their playing partner, will be given the chance to play with Sam at Turnberry, venue for The Open in 2009.
Moves to further raise the profile of tourism in Angus and Dundee include a garden themed-event and golf will also be to the fore, with international journalists being shown the area.
Patrick O’Shaughnessy, VisitScotland Angus and Dundee area director said, “This is a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of the area as a golfing destination and look forward to the forthcoming Open Championship in Carnoustie.
“These are exciting times. The widespread media coverage and the large number of events coming up will contribute significantly to the success of the area by promoting Angus and Dundee as a holiday destination.” |
