Winning council offices design

The winning design for the new £20m city council offices, which will replace Tayside House, is to be recommended for approval at a committee meeting tonight.
Following consultation, the Dundee House Project Board is proposing that the design from Reiach and Hall Architects, Edinburgh, is approved for the offices in North Lindsay Street.

There had been submissions from a total of eight consultants.

The new building will replace the much-disliked Tayside House, which is to be demolished as part of the Central Waterfront Development.

In a report scheduled to go before the social policy and resources committee tonight, councillors will be told the whole life costs of the new offices at Dundee House will be substantially less than those at Tayside House, due to increased energy efficiencies, lower energy costs and reduced maintenance costs.

Councillor Jill Shimi, convener of policy and resources, said, “The increasing maintenance costs of Tayside House mean that finding replacement office accommodation for our staff will bring long term savings.

“The whole of the ground floor of the office space in Dundee House will be a first-class, one-stop shop for the public to make any dealings with the council as easy and simple as possible.

“This firmly underlines the council's commitment to modernising contact with the public.”
