New day care centre opened

At the opening were, left to right, Mgr Creegan, John Mackie of the management committee, Teresa McGregor, Effie McVicar, Con Dailly, Ian Borthwick, and Margaret Smith of the management committee.

A new day care centre for the elderly, which will run on a weekly basis in St Peter and Paul Church Hall in Dundee, was officially opened today.

A group from the congregation felt there was a need for a day care facility in the Hilltown area.

While the centre is supported by the church, the service is open to the wider community.

The centre will meet every Wednesday and people attending will be picked up from their homes and dropped off at the hall in time for lunch, which will then be followed by an afternoon of entertainment.

Age Concern advocacy officer Ian Borthwick officially opened the centre today.

Monsignor Joe Creegan said, “A group of people in the parish saw the need for a day care facility in the area where we are at the top of the Hilltown.

“We felt it would be a good thing to support. It is not just open to those from the church, but those from the wider community.

“It is a chance for those that are maybe housebound or don’t get out often to mix with other people and enjoy lunch, entertainment and we hope to bring in people to speak on useful and relevant topics.”
