| The showpiece event will put Dundee in the national spotlight throughout the weekend and beyond, with TV broadcasts and full on-line coverage also planned.
Dundee Lord Provost John Letford said, “The excitement and anticipation around Dundee about Radio 1’s Big Weekend has been building since the city was confirmed as this year's venue.
“This will be a tremendous weekend for both Dundee and Radio 1, and the city will be the focus of massive national attention.
“There will be important spin-off benefits for the city and its vibrant music scene and the legacy of this event will have a positive impact for years to come.”
Controversial American singer Pink, Dundee University-formed Snow Patrol and chart sensations the Sugababes are among the main attractions confirmed for what will be the biggest live music event in the city’s history.
Others taking to the two stages at Camperdown Country Park on May 13 and 14 include The Streets, Keane, Primal Scream, the Ordinary Boys and Muse.
Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman said, “Again the line up for Radio 1’s Big Weekend gets stronger and stronger and shows the variety of music we play.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Snow Patrol back on their old stomping ground, Primal Scream will be quite special and I’m well excited that two of my favourite bands, Bloc Party and We Are Scientists, are also on the bill.”
A total of 15,000 tickets will be available for each day of the festival, with organisers again stressing that “the clear majority” of briefs will go to people in Dundee and the surrounding area.
Up to half a million applications are expected, and tickets will be available from Wednesday at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1
Each successful applicant will be allowed a pair of tickets for either Saturday or Sunday.
In the week preceding the festival, Radio 1 will broadcast build-up shows from across Scotland. Radio 1 DJs including Chris Moyles, Colin and Edith, Scott Mills, Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe will be introducing the bands on stage and broadcasting live from the event. On the Saturday night, Radio 1 will come live from Dundee’s London nightclub for what’s described as a “mammoth” six-hour dance fest.
