Rare trip home for Dundee musician

A well-known Dundee accordionist has returned to his home city for the first time in over 20 years to see his Oscar-winning son wed.
Arthur Spink (63) has not been in Dundee since 1984 when he teamed up with tenor Dennis Clancy to perform their famous ‘Twa Braw Lads’ act at a golden wedding celebration.

He emigrated to Australia in 1979, along with wife Ray and sons Arthur junior and Steven, and still lives there today.

Son Arthur (39) marries his partner Sarah Langlands in Harrogate, Yorkshire, this weekend, and Mr and Mrs Spink have flown over for the occasion.

They are staying in Dundee with family friend Jacqui Croal before going down to the ceremony at the weekend.

Jacqui said the Spinks had been very impressed with Dundee, noticing a lot of positive changes since their last visit.

Arthur senior began his career in show business when he was just 17, having started playing the accordion at the age of five. He spent many years touring the world and became a household name in Scottish music circles.

However, not to be outdone, his son Arthur received a major accolade in his own choice of career when, in 1996, he was part of the special effects team that lifted the Oscar for visual effects for the film Babe at the Academy Awards.
