Dundee swans to be monitored

Swans at Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, today.

Dundee City Council plans to closely monitor the city’s swan population following the discovery of the dead bird in Fife.
A council spokeswoman said although it is impossible to quarantine the swans at either Stobsmuir Ponds or near Broughty Ferry Castle, they would be keeping a watch on the situation.

She said there was no way to tell if the virus had spread north of the Tay unless a bird died and then tested positive for the disease.
