Pupils from Dundee and Arbroath joined the cream of Scottish football at Hampden Park, Glasgow, today to unite against racism.
The event was to honour this year’s schools anti-racism competition.

First prize in the P1-4 poetry section was won by Shun Ming Wong, Kaleem Haneef, Rhaighan Gilligan and Shannon Smith of Ancrum Road Primary School, Dundee, who were accompanied to the National Stadium by bilingual teacher Ruth McConnachie and head teacher Mrs O’Rourke. The school received £750.

Nicola Robb from Inverbrothock Primary, Arbroath, took second prize in the P5-7 poetry category.

The pupils met Scotland football team manager Walter Smith as well as some of the SPL stars including Rangers’ Chris Burke, Paul Hartley of Hearts and Motherwell’s Phil O’Donnell, who presented the prizes.

Pupils were asked to create a piece of art to convey the anti-racism message.

The overall winner, who will receive extra football prizes and a cheque for £1000 for their school, will be announced later today.
