United pair do well
It may have been a bad night for the Scotland Future side as they lost to Turkey in Inverness last night, but Dundee United came out winners (writes Tom Duthie).
Although sloppy defending saw the “possibles” team go down 3-2 to the Turks, Tannadice pair Lee Miller and Barry Robson both turned in encouraging performances.

And it was the combination of a Robson cross and Miller finish that kept the home team in the hunt in a turbulent final 20 minutes that also saw rumoured United target, ICT midfielder Ian Black, sent off.

Dealing with his present charges today, United boss Craig Brewster expressed satisfaction at the positive news.

“It’s a nice spin off for us that Barry and Lee have done well, but, most of all, it is good for them. Now we’ll wait and see what happens when Walter Smith names his next squad,” he said.

Craig was particularly pleased that Miller, who has had a difficult season in front of goal, made it three strikes in a week after his double in the win over Livingston on Saturday.

“His goals are a reward for hard work and the only down side for him is that we don’t have a game on Saturday.”

There was also good news on the injury front today. Paul Ritchie had felt a reaction when he returned to full training on Monday after two months out with a dead leg and there had been some concern about that.

It has proved to be only a minor setback, though, and the defender was back working with the rest of the squad.

No rest for keepers at Dens
While more adverse weather meant another enforced break for some of the playing staff, Dundee’s goalkeepers were at work and training hard (writes Tom Duthie).
“After his injury lay-off, Kelvin Jack felt he needed to do some extra work and we were happy to accommodate him,” said boss Alan Kernaghan.

Dundee’s home league game against Brechin, originally scheduled for April 1, has been re-arranged for Tuesday, April 11, unless the Dark Blues draw their Scottish Cup semi-final against Gretna. Should that be the case, the replay will take place that evening at Fir Park, Motherwell.

Dundee will hold a minute’s applause before Saturday’s game against St Johnstone in tribute to Jimmy Johnstone, who died earlier this week.
