| The Best Bar None accreditation scheme, sponsored by drinks giant Diageo, was launched at the City Chambers today with the backing of the city council, Tayside Police, Tayside Fire and Rescue, Dundee’s licensed trade and the Scottish Business Crime Centre.
Under the scheme points are given to premises that take pride in customer service, have good stewarding, a no drugs policy, first aid provision and high food quality.
Pubs and clubs in Dundee are being invited to apply for accreditation and applications will be judged by a panel of experts, with the first local awards ceremony taking place later this year.
At the launch today, Lord Provost John Letford said the scheme would build on the success of the DUNCAN (Dundee Co-ordinated Anti Crime Network) in the city’s night time economy.
“Dundee is becoming known for the quality of its nightlife and there has already been a great deal of partnership work carried out,” he said. “We want to build on that to provide a culture of excellence and promote healthy competition.”
Chief Superintendent Ian Alexander, Dundee Divisional Commander of Tayside Police, said he would be looking to the scheme to reduce the anti-social behaviour caused by people abusing alcohol.
Scottish Business Crime Centre chief executive Alan Dobie said he was delighted the scheme was coming to Dundee. |
