| Organisers Radio 1 conceded there would be “a lot of disappointed people” when the biggest event of its kind ever held in the city visits Camperdown Park in May.
Priority is being given to the host region in a ballot scheme designed to avoid the queuing problems experienced at last year’s event and crack down on touts seeking to cash in on the 30,000 available tickets.
“Radio 1 has been to England, Northern Ireland and Wales so far with the Big Weekend, so clearly we wanted to give the opportunity to people in Scotland to experience the event,” said the organisers.
“As part of Radio 1’s public service remit, we aim to reach out to areas of the UK that may have a high proportion of young people, perhaps underserved in their region with events of this calibre.
“Do remember you can still experience much of the event if you don’t secure a ticket by listening to Radio 1’s coverage across the whole weekend live on Radio 1, and also see much of the goings on by logging on to the website.”
The free music festival takes place on May 13 and 14, with a star-studded line-up performing in front of 30,000 fans in two massive marquees in the park.
The bill is certain to include chart-topping acts from both sides of the Atlantic, while up-and-coming Dundee talent will be given nationwide exposure.
Tickets from the online and postal ballot will be allocated only around three to four days prior to the weekend, with the aim of significantly reducing the opportunity for touting via online auctions.
