MSP makes case for toll scrap
Maintenance of tolls on the Tay and Forth road bridges while scrapping charges on the Erskine crossing would “discriminate” against people in Tayside and Fife, a Dundee MSP has said.
Dundee East representative Shona Robison argued, “My view is quite simple — if it’s good enough to take the tolls off the Erskine Bridge then they should also come off the Tay and Forth.

“I can’t understand the logic of doing otherwise, and there has to be some consistency. The argument about the economic benefit to the west of Scotland applies here too. I think the transport minister has a lot of explaining to do about the thinking behind this.

“I will continue to make my views known if the people of Tayside and Fife are discriminated against.”

Fife Council leader Anne McGovern has also expressed her dismay at the expected announcement.

She said, “We are extremely angry at the prospect tolls could be removed from the Erskine Bridge but remain on the two gateways to Fife.

“If the only two tolled bridges in Scotland are to be in the East of Scotland and in the same local authority area, not only would this would be unfair and inequitable for Fifers, but could have a disastrous effect on the economy of the whole of the east of Scotland.

“If this worst case scenario is confirmed, we will have no other option but to fight tolls outright.”
