| The body of 33-year-old Kamran Ahmed was found in a fourth-floor tenement flat after a blaze tore through the building around midnight on Saturday, February 11. Another man remains in a critical condition in hospital after leaping from the top floor to escape the flames.
The new information, which was not disclosed, is being examined by officers. The operation saw police out in force around the area and identified several people captured on CCTV on the night of the fire.
A police spokesman said, “Officers spoke to shopkeepers, pedestrians, passengers on buses on the Albert Street route and passing motorists in a bid to jog memories.”
He thanked the public for their help, but renewed an appeal for witnesses to come forward.
The blaze began on the ground floor. Police are still working to determine its cause and if it was set deliberately.
Detective Chief Inspector Ewen West said “a pretty good picture” of events is being built up. However, he insisted even the smallest new piece of information may help.
He revealed contact has been made with Mr Ahmed’s family in Pakistan.
Mr Ahmed lived in Dundee for several years and worked in the restaurant industry.
