| The event, which was free and open to the public, was planned following a recent Active Dundee consultation event, where key partners involved in the planning and provision of physical activities identified the need to break down barriers preventing people taking an active life.
It was developed in partnership with Dundee City Council, Dundee City Sports Council, University of Dundee, University of Abertay, Dundee College, NHS Tayside, Dundee Healthy Living Initiative, Tayside and Fife Institute of Sport and Sport Tayside.
Active Dundee focused on the health benefits which can be attained through an active lifestyle and on the quality range and variety of activities available at local level.
A whole day of sporting activities took place in the Marryat Hall, with demonstrations which included body combat, spinning and fitness testing.
Councillor Charles Farqhuar, leisure services convener, said, “I am delighted to endorse, on behalf of all the Active Dundee partners, Active Dundee — Dundee’s Physical Activity Strategy 2006.
“I am certain it will prove to be a valuable resource for all agencies working towards increasing levels of physical activity across all age groups. Active Dundee is a testament to the co-operation, collaboration and good will of people across the city and I am certain, with continuing support of all partners, Active Dundee will make a difference to the health of the citizens of Dundee.” |
