| City centre commuters suffered delays today with the restarting of roadworks after they were suspended for the festive season.
Today saw both north and southbound traffic between the railway station and Nethergate being squeezed into single lanes, causing tailbacks of traffic in both directions.
The clusters of traffic lights on the section also seemed to be changing to red with too great frequency, preventing drivers from passing quickly through area.
A spokesman for the city council said, “The traffic light timings are being adjusted to take account of the traffic flows during these roadworks. We are monitoring the situation as it happens.”
South Marketgait is being realigned as part of the £270 million redevelopment of Dundee central waterfront. The roadworks began in April and the latest phase is due to last seven weeks.
As well as realigning the road, new traffic lights are being installed, a pedestrian crossing is being reconfigured at Nethergate and works are taking place at Yeaman Shore where a new car park has been provided.
The city council gave advance warning of the latest roadworks, and urged motorists to allow extra time for journeys. |
