| A three-storey block off Earn Crescent was cordoned off and there were uniformed officers posted around the area as forensic experts began an examination of the scene.
A police spokesman said, “The ambulance service was called to a flat in Earn Crescent at around 6.40am today.
“Paramedics found the man to be dead on their arrival. Tayside Police were contacted and officers immediately attended.
“The flat has been cordoned off while officers carry out inquiries in the area and to allow a thorough forensic examination of the scene to take place.”
A post mortem was due to take place later today, and police said they would not release the name of the deceased until a formal identification had taken place and next of kin had been informed.
At the snow-covered scene this morning, uniformed officers were interviewing residents of the four blocks which make up the residential square.
They were joined shortly before 9.30 by a team of specialists from the Tayside Police forensics department.
Neighbours Craig Arnott and Julia Peirce said they were shocked to find the area in front of their home buzzing with police activity.
“I looked out the window this morning to see if it had snowed, and instead I saw all these police officers going about,” said Craig.
“I couldn’t believe it. One of my neighbours said they had been there for ages, since about 6.30, and that there had been an ambulance up and everything.”
Added Julia, “We’ve never seen anything like this happen here before. It’s normally such a quiet area.” |
