| Senior police officers briefed the investigators at an early meeting at Western Division headquarters in Perth before they headed for the crash site.
Two men died after the privately-owned Bell 206 plummeted to the ground east of the A94 Coupar Angus to Meigle road shortly after 10 am yesterday.
Tayside Police have confirmed that one of the men was from the Glasgow area and was in his late 40s, while the other victim was from Tyne & Wear and was in his mid 50s.
It is understood relatives of the men have been informed, though further details of the deceased will not be released until they have been formally identified.
The helicopter was travelling from Cumbernauld to the Aberdeen area when it came down in a field. No one else was injured as a result of the accident.
Air accident investigators from Farnborough arrived in Scotland last night and were today continuing the painstaking examination of the crash site.
Tayside Police has maintained a cordon around the incident site and, in conjunction with air accident investigators, will continue making inquiries into the full set of circumstances surrounding the incident.
