| And, at Dundee United, there is growing speculation that, as well as trying to strengthen his squad, boss Gordon Chisholm will have to deal with approaches for star defender Mark Wilson.
Tuesday’s win over Dunfermline saw a host of top English and Scottish clubs send scouts to the City of Discovery and included in that number were long-time Wilson admirers Celtic.
Veteran Paul Telfer moved north to team up with Hoops boss Gordon Strachan in the summer and has been operating at right-back for them, but their search for a long-term successor to Jackie McNamara has been continuing and it is understood Wilson remains high on the list of possible targets.
He signed a new contract only in August, but the financial realities of life in the SPL means any big offer would have to be given serious consideration.
His price could be boosted by interest from several Premiership clubs and among those who have had regular looks at the 21-year-old are high-flying Tottenham Hotspur.
With that one, it will be a case of wait-and-see for United, but work on squad building is already under way and talks between Peter Canero and manager Gordon Chisholm are taking place.
Signed on a short-term contract in September, Canero is available to face Killie and then Rangers on Hogmanay, but becomes a free agent again in January.
So far, he has not committed himself to staying on Tayside and there has been interest from both America and England.
After a string of impressive performances, a determined effort will be made to persuade him his long-term future lies at United and he will be given the opportunity to stay.
Another player with a question mark hanging over his future is club captain Derek McInnes. His brief substitute appearance against the Pars was his first involvement on the park since the defeat at Hearts early last month and there is no doubt he would be allowed to move on when the transfer window opens.
Former club Morton have been credited with an interest, but a stumbling block for them, and any other lower division sides, would be coming up with enough money to get anywhere close to his SPL wages.
SUITORS ON SWANKIE ALERT
At Dundee, January could bring an end to summer signing Gavin Swankie’s unhappy spell as a Dark Blue.
Boss Alan Kernaghan has already said he is willing to let the former Arbroath midfielder leave either on loan, or in a permanent switch, and that has alerted a number of clubs.
One possible move, could be to Second Division promotion hopefuls Partick Thistle, whose manager Dick Campbell is known to be a Swankie admirer.
Dundee fans, meanwhile, have been reminded that Monday’s meeting with the Diamonds has a 2 pm kick-off.
Striker Tam McManus remains a doubt because of groin trouble, though it looks likely that the same team that hammered St Mirren in the last game just under a fortnight ago will be available. |
