| This message comes at the start of a campaign across the Dundee area, with inquiry officers visiting unlicensed addresses at all hours of the day.
Explaining the local initiative, TV Licensing spokesperson for Scotland Fergus Reid said, “Through this new campaign, combining an education programme with visiting, we want to encourage as many people in Dundee as possible to get a licence before they get a knock on the door.
“There are many ways to pay for your licence like Direct Debit, which allows you to spread the cost throughout the year. There really is no excuse for not paying.”
TV Licensing is running an education programme to ensure local residents know their legal obligations and the range of payment options available to them.
The programme includes working closely with community, voluntary and housing organisations, including Dundee Citizens’ Advice Bureau, Abertay Housing Association and Hillcrest Housing Association, to highlight the number of easy ways to pay for a licence.
It is illegal to watch any television programme service using television receiving equipment without a valid TV licence. People should buy a TV licence rather than run the risk of a trip to court, a fine of up to £1000 plus court costs, and they still have to buy a TV licence if they need one. A colour TV licence currently costs £126.50.
