Dundee bingo player’s £250,000 win
A lucky bingo player from Dundee scooped a quarter of a million pounds at the Nethergate Mecca Playhouse last night, writes Katy Gilzean.
Although she has been a member of the bingo club for several years, this was the first time the22-year-old woman, who works for Dundee City Council, had played this year.

She won the National Bingo Game prize of £250,000 plus a further regional prize of £1200 and a club prize of £191.

The Dundee woman was the first person from 500 clubs across the UK to call her winning numbers.

Georgina Palmer, Press officer for the National Bingo Game, said, “The woman called in 39 numbers — the fewest out of 500 clubs that were playing nationwide.

“This must be the biggest National Bingo Game win Dundee has ever had.

“The lucky winner from Dundee was obviously a very happy lady last night and was very excited about her win of £250,000.”

Tom Docherty, general manager at Mecca Dundee Playhouse, said, “It’s always fantastic to have a big winner in the club as it creates a great atmosphere.

“When she called on the number 39 the whole club applauded as they knew it would be a big win. After that they all waited in anticipation for the number to be checked.

“The claim was validated and the whole club erupted in applause again. The customers were going over to congratulate the winner. Everyone was ecstatic for her.

“The winner was completely gobsmacked at first. Once it had sunk in she was over the moon. She said she’d never had any kind of win before so it was especially exciting. This was her first visit to bingo all year.”

The winner asked not to be identified, nor to comment on her success.
