| “Overwhelming” demand at Dundee’s new Slater Menswear store could mean extra jobs for the city.
The latest retail outlet in the £20 million refurbishment of the former Arnott’s store in the High Street had its official opening today, although the shop has been open to customers since Thursday.
Store manager David Mooney says the shop has been so busy that extra staff have had to be called in from other Slater stores in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
He said that the shop will have to add to the store’s 20 jobs if the level of customers continues.
“We have been overwhelmed and, with Christmas coming, we will have to recruit more staff if demand keeps up.”
Slater Menswear invested £1 million to develop the 8000 square foot location, situated on the first floor of the building.
To mark the store’s opening a £10 voucher was printed in yesterday’s Tele.
David explained, “There is a dangerous element to the promotion — because we are basically giving people £10 worth of goods for nothing.
“But so far most people have spent much more.
“It’s been a successful promotion.” |
