| Lord Provost John Letford today officially opened Radio Tay’s refurbished studios in Dundee — 25 years to the day since the station started broadcasting. Mr Letford unveiled a plaque at the studios, which cost £350,000 to revamp.
Managing director Ally Ballingall said the anniversary was tinged with sadness, as two people who were instrumental in the setting up of the station were no longer around to see the day.
Ally helped put the station on the map, passing career milestones of temporary DJ, presenter, senior presenter, programme controller and now managing director.
Ally has also been one of the inspirations behind the award-winning Tay Action and Caring for Kids initiatives, among others.
He said, “Allen MacKenzie (the station’s first managing director) wanted it to be established as a station that the community looks to and I think we’ve carried that on.
“It’s just a shame that neither Allen, nor George McIntosh, who were instrumental in the setting up of Radio Tay are here to see this day — but I’m sure they’ll be with us in spirit.”
The station’s on-air studios, news studio and production studio have been refurbished. |
