Cycling cook rustles up funds for Sean

A relief cook with Tayside Fire and Rescue today presented an electric wheelchair to a young man with Friedreich’s Ataxia.

Ann Vaughan raised £1100 when she completed the Rotary Club Dundee Cyclathon, which took place on the city’s 26-mile Green Circular route in June.

She decided to use to money to buy an electric wheelchair for her friend, Sean McNamee (22), as he suffers from a genetic disorder of the nervous system and muscles that results in the loss of power in the legs.

Ann said, “Sean has Friedreich’s Ataxia, which is a progressive disease.

“I used to be his carer and am still very friendly with him.”

She added that the wheelchair would enable him to get around more easily as he is finding it increasingly more difficult to do so.

The presentation took place at John Barleycorn bar, Strathmartine Road.
