| Over 750 delegates converged on Dundee as the Rotary District 1020 conference returned to the city for the first time since 2002. The conference runs until Sunday.
Dr Steven Henderson, district governor of Rotary District 1020, said Dundee was chosen because of its first class conference facilities and excellent accommodation.
He said, “We require a city which can accommodate 900 delegates in comfortable hotels and can provide first class conference facilities.
“We require good shopping facilities for anyone who is interested in such things! We also require a location, which is accessible to the District.
“Finally, I personally felt the conference must be held in Scotland. Putting these conditions together we arrived at Dundee as the city of choice.”
The conference is an annual requirement for all 529 Districts. There will be speakers on a wide range of topics.
Lord Mackay of Clashfern and Duncan Mackenzie, sports commentator and former player for Leeds, Chelsea, Everton and Nottingham Forest, are the principal speakers.
Karen Tocher, Dundee and Angus Convention Bureau manager, said, “Research has shown that on average, conference delegates spend three times more than leisure tourists during a visit, including registration fees, travel costs, accommodation, and food and drink.”
It is estimated the conference will boost the local economy by more than £550,000. |
