Twinning medals handed over

The Lord Provost receives the medals from (left to right) Harry Hall, Shirley Mackie, Dundee Orleans Twinning Society chairwoman Elisabeth MacKenzie and David Hollings, a member of both societies.

Bronze medallions, presented to the Dundee branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society during a trip to Orleans nine years ago, were today handed over to Lord Provost John Letford for inclusion in the “twinning room” at City Chambers.
One was given to the society in celebration of Bastille Day, and the other was presented by the Union Des Amicales Regionalistes Du Loiret, an organisation dedicated to the preservation of the cultural heritage of France’s regions.

The society’s secretary, Harry Hall, said the medallions would be on “permanent loan” to the twinning room, a repository for memorabilia from Dundee’s twin cities around the world.

He added, “A member of our society is also a member of the town twinning association with Orleans, and it was suggested to us it might be appropriate to approach the Lord Provost to see if he would like to display them in the twinning room.

“They have just been sitting in a drawer all these years, and we thought it would be better if people were able to see them.”

The society’s chairman, Shirley Mackie, made the presentation of the medallions to Mr Letford.
