Dundee factory blaze probe
Five fire units rushed to a factory at Dunsinane Industrial Estate in Dundee this morning after flames broke out in an industrial plant room.
Firefighters entered the property at Umicore Coating Services Ltd, Kinnoull Street, at about 10.40am. They quickly brought the fire under control and, after about 50 minutes, were engaged in salvage work.

Station Officer Jim Pearson, from Blackness Fire Station, said the factory sprinkler system had contained the outbreak until units arrived.

“There was minor damage in the plant room to tacking and insulation,” he said. “The factory itself was damaged by water from the sprinkler system — I would say about 20% of the floor area.

“A full evacuation was carried out prior to our arrival and there were no injuries.”

An investigation is under way to establish the cause.

A Umicore representative said the firm was in discussions to determine what had happened.
