| Following a successful pilot scheme at Grange, Northmuir, Borrowfield and Monikie Primary Schools as well as Arbroath High and Arbroath Academy, part-time 20 mph zones are to be rolled out across the area.
The next schools which will see the introduction of the speed limits are Southmuir, Cortachy, Birkhill, Strathmartine, Eassie, Edzell, Airlie and Glamis.
Further schools in Forfar, Carnoustie, Monifieth, Arbroath, Montrose and outlying areas will then follow respectively, with Monikie Primary, which currently has a 30 mph part-time speed limit outside the school, changing to a part-time 20 mph.
The signs will be active in the morning when school starts, during lunchtimes and in the afternoon when school closes. Motorists will be alerted to the alteration in the speed limit by flashing amber lights.
“The part-time 20 mph are intended to reduce the speed limit only when required and not unjustifiably delay motorists at other times of the day,” said a council spokesperson. “The part-time 20 mph limits are in addition to the full-time mandatory 20 mph and advisory 20 mph limits which the council have introduced at other locations throughout Angus.” |
