| This has been revealed by local Fife councillor Tim Brett, who said that a planning application for the work had now been submitted by the firm RMC Materials Limited.
Councillor Brett said that, in conjunction with Tayport member Maggie Taylor, the firm had been invited to the community council meeting, to be held in the Blyth Hall, Newport-on-Tay, on Monday, September 12.
“Wormit Quarry has been in operation since 1948 and currently has planning permission for the extraction of sand and gravel.
“There were previously two quarries in the area, worked by different companies, but they are now both owned by RMC Materials Limited. The proposed development relates to the extraction of a further 3.42m tonnes of sand and gravel from above and below the water table.
“This material would be extracted at the rate of 200,000 tonnes per annum and will extend the life of the quarry for a further 17 years,” he said.
Councillor Taylor said the proposals indicate that the sand and gravel will be processed at the existing Wormit Quarry processing plant, and that a detailed environmental statement providing information on their proposals had been submitted.
“I hope this statement can be made available to anyone who may be interested in reading it so that any concerns can be raised with Councillor Brett or myself before this comes to the East Area Development Committee.” |
