Vandals have caused around £3000 worth of damage by smashing windows at a primary school in Dundee at the weekend.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, at St Joseph’s Primary School in Bellfield Street, to come forward.

A total of 36 windows were broken at the east side of the building — where the school’s gym hall is situated — between 4.30pm on Friday and 8.30am yesterday.

Dundee City Council confirmed today the windows would be repaired in time for the school’s pupils returning after the summer break.

She added that the cost of putting right such wanton vandalism was a source of frustration to the education department.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said, “We would like to hear from any member of the public who saw suspicious activity in the area or who can otherwise assist with inquiries.”

Information can be passed to officers on Dundee 223200.

Last year it was revealed that the council has mounted a replacement window programme for schools and other buildings by using well-nigh-indestructible polycarbonate instead of glass.

Welcoming a reduction in the number of vandal attacks on council buildings, administration leader Jill Shimi said at the time, “The city council is committed to making life as hard as possible for vandals, so that the people of Dundee do not have to suffer because of the selfishness of others.”
